At an event featuring free hugs at the door and the premiere of the world’s first Google Glass-activated contemporary art piece, EarlyShares is joining its contemporaries in the Miami startup community for the inaugural SIME MIA conference this week.
SIME, a major digital and entrepreneurial conference organization in Europe, teamed up with MIA Collective and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to host the first SIME conference in the U.S. here in Miami, with events taking place at the New World Symphony complex on Miami Beach and The LAB in the Wynwood Arts District.
Playing host to more than 500 entrepreneurs, investors, and other members of Miami’s tech startup scene, SIME MIA features speakers from tech companies like Gigaom, Flickr, .CO, Singularity University, and Qwiki and accelerators and investment firms like Intellectual Ventures, Northzone, 500 startups, and many more. The two-day event also includes “campfire” breakout sessions on subjects like entrepreneurship, user experience, startup “agility,” and other topics.
Several key threads running through the discussions are near and dear to EarlyShares’ heart. No matter the panel topic – “Inside the Mind of Super Entrepreneurs” or “Cities Disrupting the Future” or “Dominating from Outside the Valley” – the same themes come up: The importance of following your passion as an entrepreneur or investor; the need to increase access to capital for early-stage businesses; and the major growth potential of the Miami tech and entrepreneurial scene.
All of that is music to EarlyShares’ ears. As you can imagine, we feel right at home at SIME MIA and can’t wait to stay involved with SIME events in the years to come.
The tech-connected crowd at SIME MIA has been Instagramming, live-tweeting and blogging away about this groundbreaking event. Follow the action with the hashtags #SIMEMIA and #InnovateMIA, and follow @SIMEMIA to keep up.
